Fire Prevention Officers Meeting

5th November 1942

During the last few weeks a Fire Guard Class for the training of supplementary instructors has been held at the Glanamman and Garnant Council Schools.

The course was both instructive and strenuous, for it involved a real test of fire extinguishing in a hut specially constructed for the purpose.

In addition to the practical test, a written test of one and a half hours was undertaken, and the result of the examination was given at a final joint meeting of the two Classes on Monday evening last.

In view of the fact that it is now compulsory for women between the ages of 20 and 45 years to do fire watching, it was felt desirable that the female element be introduced into these Classes, and it speaks well for the ladies concerned that they, together with the men, achieved the remarkable average marks for the two Classes of 96 per cent.

The two able Instructors responsible for this wonderful result were Messrs. J. Alcwyn Davies. A. R. P. S., and David Morgan. L. A. R. F.

Another feature of these Classes that might prove interesting to the ratepayers of Cwmamman is the fact that all these instructors have volunteered their services free, and have waived their right to fees to which they are entitled.

The following is the list of those who qualified ;?

Misses Margaret Thomas, B.A.,
M. Jenkins,
Wynne Fuller,
Mary Rees,
Messrs. W. Rees, M.A.,
