Another year older

22nd JULY 1995

AMMANFORD fire brigade's annual open day takes place on Saturday as the town's fire fighting team play host once more to the local community.

The annual charity event boasts something for everyone, with a beer tent, food stalls selling everything from hot dogs to hamburgers and numerous fun filled games.

Among them are Splat the Rat, the traditional coconut shy, a spin the wheel stall together with a go-kart area for the three to seven-year olds and bouncy castle.

Also on show, of course, will be a wide array of fire fighting equipment, ranging from a turn table ladder, emergency tender for crash rescue and a number of other appliances.

Last year the late afternoon charity event was a run away success with £1,000 raised for the Fire Service Benevolent Fund and another £2,2284 for a whole series of local charities.

“Some of the money raised last year went to Ammanford's special needs unit,” station officer, Teifion Williams, told the Guardian this week.

“The event turned out to be a huge success but we are hoping that this year we will do even better.

“I would like to thank all the local businesses which gave their support during the year, and which provided equipment free of charge,” he said.

“I would also like to thank those who advertised in our programme because of the money raised would not have been available.”

The July 22 open day, as in other years, begins at noon.

The picture looks familiar because it was taken last year. The article was a pre-open day announcement using the previous years picture. There were no pictures or write-up of the actual openday. Must have forgotten?
