Ammanford Football Club's ambitious plans have been rocked by a fire that devastated its main stand, making it a death-trap in the process.
Club officials were called to the ground in the early hours of Wednesday morning last week where the main arena engulfed in flames.
As a result the stand has been left in an extremely unstable condition and club chairman Steve Davies, who watched in horror as years of hard work and commitment went up in flames in front of his very eyes, is warning children to keep away.
“The fire has made the stand very unstable and dangerous,” he said.
“I would like to ask all parents to ensure that their children do not go anywhere near the stand as it is unsafe.
Fire broke out at the Rice Road ground at 2am and to Steve and all associated with the club, it was a heart breaking sight.
“This is a massive blow to the club,” added Steve.
“We only finished refurbishing the stand last year and now it's all gone.
Many famous players have played in front of that stand – Dai Davies probably being the most well-known – as well as professional clubs like Swansea, Cardiff and Wrexham.
“We hope to be in a position to ask local people for help in rebuilding the stand now, which we need to get ready by August for the start of the new season.”
