CATTLE DIE IN LORRY CRASH

FIREMEN freed two cows trapped in a cattle lorry which overturned on Betws Mountain on Tuesday morning.

Two cows were killed in the accident, in Maesquarre Road, another cow and five calves escaped from the vehicle, but were later caught.

The lorry driver, Mr. Heddwyn Williams, of Llwynadam, Pontarddulais, was unhurt.

Mr. Williams was transporting cattle, which belonged to Mr. N. Jacobs, of Tynywaun Farm, Craigcefnparc, to summer grazing in the Llandeilo area.

The police used heavy lifting gear to right the lorry and to drag its container back on to the road.

Firemen are pictured dragging clear one of the cows after Tuesday's accident.
